In a few weeks, I will be writing a research paper for my Writing as Critical Thinking class. Of course, the topic must be something pertaining to food. I have a general idea of what I want to do, but hopefully if I spew my thoughts out, I can narrow my topic down. So ever since I watched, A Place at the Table, It opened my eyes to a whole new problem in out country. I knew hunger was a problem, but I did not know that it was as bad as it is now. I know I want to write my paper about hunger in the United States, but i think that is too broad of a topic to do research on. Maybe I could talk about just children who are hungry in this country. Or I could just write about children who are obese because the quality of food that they are consuming is unhealthy and that food is the only kind of food their parents can afford. There is also the possibility of writing my research paper about the food stamps program and how it affects families that struggle to feed their families. Also, I could write about the school lunch program and how that affects kids who are hungry. The documentary A Place at the Table talked about how every school lunch meal amounts to about $0.98 per kid from the government. Is that enough to give a kid a filling nutritious meal? Not hardly. This may be my research topic, however, I will have to do some more brainstorming.
